The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has sent notice that the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus was detected in mosquitoes collected from communities around Central Massachusetts. In response, the Board of Health announced that all school fields, town parks and ballfields in Clinton will be closed for all activities from 6:15 PM to 7:00 AM from now until the first frost of the season. EEE is a rare but serious illness spread to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project will be conducting additional truck route pesticide treatments and aerial spraying in Clinton to prevent further spread of the virus. Be careful when outdoors from dusk to dawn by wearing long clothing that covers the skin and using insect repellant. A schedule of mosquito treatments in Clinton can be found here or from the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project.
